We are approaching a brand new era in the history of the Maconite Scholarship Organization. This year 2011, will mark 42 years of providing scholarship assistance to deserving high school and college students in their quest to obtain academic excellence.
We have so much to celebrate and even more to be thankful for. Our rich history, which began in 1969, is a fascinating story that hails from a small southern town of Macon, Mississippi, (hence the name) as a way to maintain cohesiveness and connection to our roots as we migrated to various parts of the United States, later recognizing the need and seizing the opportunity to support educational endeavors . Yes indeed, these are exciting times ; it is a point in time when the entire national organization can join together to rediscover our historic southern roots, reflect upon and recommit ourselves to core organizational values, and collectively formulate strategic plans to guide the organization in the 21st century.
We expect to continually build upon this great tradition by integrating the past, present and future. Towards that end, we are pleased to announce the roll-out of our youth leadership program known as the Young Maconite Leaders of Tomorrow (YMLOTS) and phase II of our 2007 Marketing plan that involves the unveiling of our newly re-designed website that speaks directly to entire new audience of Maconites.
Our new website is a user friendly social media using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques such as Blog, Face book, and Twitter. We are confidence that the blending of technology and social interaction will create enormous value for the Maconite Scholarship Organization. Please take a stroll through our virtual environment and utilize our blog feature to provide feedback. Enjoy!

Upon graduation Elise will join Cheryl Johnson Urban Planning & Associates.

September 2010 – No one can deny that the Maconite St. Louis Chapter hosted one of the most memorable events in recent Maconite history. Approximately 500 fellow Maconites, the young as well as the “young at heart” all gathered at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Bridgeton, a nearby suburb of St. Louis; City of the “Golden Arches”, home to the St. Louis Blues, Cardinals and Rams as well as the Corporate Headquarters for the MNSO, Inc., to commemorate the 41st Annual Scholarship Ball. Maconites traveled from near and far to celebrate the ties that bind while concurrently “keeping the connection alive” by fundraising and networking for a purpose.
“Young” Maconite Erica Hubbard, who served as the co-coordinator of the illustrious event along with (now hubby) Wilson’s Sound featuring DJ Classic Michael, did a fantastic job
in integrating activities and musical entertainment for the entire weekend. In keeping with tradition, the weekend kicked-off on Friday night with a bang; beginning with the Annual Nat’l meeting, followed by a “meet & greet” reception boasting a vast array of culinary delights. Saturday was a day of exploration and shopping, followed by Saturday’s night
Scholarship Awards/Dinner, and climaxing of the Nat’l Raffle. Sunday was a day of shopping and visiting relatives and friends in the St. Louis area, climaxing with Sunday’s night After Party. As always, a good time was had by all, leaving us anxiously anticipating, with bated breath, this year’s
(2011) event! See you in Erie, Pa………………………
